Not everyone is familiar with Archos they are a French company that makes amazing Internet Media Tablets. Sure you could get an Mp3 player that you can watch movies on and browse the web, but with the Archos 5 you get so much more. Mp3s check, HD video check, Internet WiFi check, TV, applications, 500 GBs of storage, and the android OS….. check!
With 500 GBs of storage you can store and listen to all of the music you desire, but the Archos 5 really shines when it comes to multimedia. For starters it has an 800 pixel wide 5 inch touchscreen. The screen comes with an accelerometer for portrait or landscape viewing and has excellent image quality. Did we mention the screen is bigger than an iPod or smart-phone screen?
With the Archos 5 you are not locked into a proprietary system and you can watch and listen to a wide array of music and video formats. It also has a 720p HD resolution. The Archos 5 also has it’s own music browsing system so you could plug it into amplified speakers and it’s your new stereo. The high resolution is also great for browsing photos and you can create slideshow transitions with music or use the flick of your finger to browse media collections.
Surf the web with the fast WiFi connection and enjoy the functions of a laptop in a more portable setting. You can take it to bed with you, in the car, or in the tub. Plus the android operating system makes it fast and stable. And you get the use of all of the Google apps and android applications. If WiFi is not available you can pair it with a blue tooth phone for anywhere Internet access.
It also has functions for web TV and radio including instant streaming so you don’t have to mess with downloads or you can use the media club for even more TV and movie choices. There is also full Gps functionality available. However you have to purchase the maps. You will get a free 7 day trial to the GPS functionality which includes, voice assistance, points of interest, route calculations, and 3D photo navigation that is great for walking in new cities. However if you don’t wish to purchase the GPS functionality you can always use the Google maps and navigation. Since you have the power of Android and Google apps at your fingertips.
The Archos shines when it comes to TV on the go and as a dvr. You even have HD TV-out so you can hook it to your TV as a media player or take it anywhere such as the car or bathroom. This player comes with tons of pre-installed applications plus you have the power of the android apps. There are also add-ons available for purchase such as the DVR station, DVR snap-on, Mini Dock, HDMI Mini Dock, and the Battery Dock.
The player comes with headphones, a standard USB cable, a DVR station adapter, and a quick start guide. As with most players the headphones may be adequate, but you will probably want to upgrade to something more comfortable when it is convenient. This is an amazing device, but it is not for the faint of heart. This device has many bells and whistles, but there may be firmware upgrades and configuration required to get the most out of this amazing device. If you are a techy and want a device that does it all this is for you. If you are buying an mp3 player for your kid and don’t want to be a full time tech support specialist, then stick with the iPod.
