This player sounds great and has buttons. Buttons are an advantage over the iPod Nano, because it just makes it that much easier to use. This player also has a display so it beats the shuffle in that regard. It is also expandable with a microSD card. So save some cash and get the 4GB player. You can even have separate cards for separate workouts.

Best Mp3 Player For The Gym

This player should probably be included in our top 10 list for 2011, since it is so popular and a best seller, but the editors here are still partial to the Fuze+ and all of the iPods didn’t leave room for two SanDisk players. This is player is inexpensive and will get the job done, but you don’t have to take my word for it since it was PC Mag Editors Choice, Computer Shopper Editors Choice, and Techgage’s Editor’s Choice.

This player is 2 1/4 inches tall and weighs less than 16 grams. It has a 15 hour battery life, and FM radio, and a stopwatch. This is a great player for listening to music, podcasts, and audiobooks on the go. You can easily create play lists and drag and drop files using Windows Media Player and a USB connection. This player comes in some nice color choices including black, grey, purple, blue, red, orange, and white.

Apple iPod Touch

When it comes to wireless mp3 players the main brands are the ones that shine. We all know that the iPod Touch has Wi-fi It also has 802.11 wireless and bluetooth. But did you know it has a camera on the front that you can make video calls with? You are able to make video calls over an iPod Touch with wi-fi using Apple Facetime software which uses email addresses instead of phone numbers to make video calls. Wirelessly sync with your computer and wirelessly sync with other Zunes to share music. The Zune HD has a very high quality OLED screen which you can watch HD movies on. Plus Microsoft now rents Zune movies. If you are a fan of HD radio you can listen to standard and HD radio on the Zune. The Zune has games and apps and can be used to browse the web. But, the Zune really shines when it comes to sound quality and video quality. The Zune HD is a true HD player and offers a rich listening experience unsurpassed by other mp3 players.

Sony X-Series Walkman

The Sony X-Series Walkman also offers a quality listening experience and wireless connectivity. With the integrated Wi-Fi on the Sony X-Series there is a You Tube app and a slacker app. With the slacker app you can cache content to listen to later when you may not have Wi-fi. If you are looking for a low cost wireless mp3 player the Archos 32 is worth a look.

This player is a regular iPod shuffle except for the company H2O Friendly has taken it apart and waterproofed all of the inner components. The company is based in San Diego and provides a one year waterproof warranty. So what you are getting is a regular brand new iPod shuffle that has been waterproofed. The 4th generation 2 GB iPod shuffle is a nice little device and with shake to shuffle and voice over features and 2 GB of storage. Clip this on your swim goggles and add some waterproof headphones and your workout will never be the same.

Aquapac 100% Waterproof Headphones

When it comes to waterproof swimming earphones the Aquapac 100% Waterproof Headphones have gotten good reviews. These are in ear headphones and have good quality waterproof design. These waterproof headphones have been tested to depths of 10 meters or 30 feet. They are not recommended for deeper depths, because the pressure of in ear headphones at deeper depths could cause hearing damage.

Use BPM To Set Pace

When listening to music for swimming you may want to pace yourself according to the beats per minute. If you would like to use your swimming mp3 player to help you swim at a certain pace you can do that using the beats per minute feature in iTunes. First thing you need to do is go to iTunes and click on View and Options and then put a check mark next to Beats Per Minute. Then you need to get the beats per minute of each song so that you can sort them accordingly.

BPM Analyzer

There are tools for Macs and Windows which allow you to tap along to the song and create a BPM. But we wanted something that would do it for us automatically and be more accurate. Luckily, MixMeister makes a free tool called the BPM Analyzer. Knowing how to categorize your music by BPM is great for creating playlists for swimming, exercising, creating slide shows, and creating DJ mixes.

There are other waterproof mp3 player options including cheaper headphones and waterproof cases, but in our opinion, these are the two best portable underwater music options for getting the most out of your swimming workout with mp3 swimming.

When it comes to Zune mp3 players the new Zune HD has a lot to offer. Most of that being HD audio and Video in a sleek, lightweight, touchscreen device. When I say HD audio and video I don’t mean just your HD music and movie downloads. It also has HD radio. For those of you who are early adopters you may know that HD radio gives Satellite radio a run for it’s money.

What I like about the Zune is the rich sound and the rich graphics. This is a very sophisticated mp3 player. The interface is also very sleek and the Wi-fi is good too. Overall this is a player that offers something that the iPod doesn’t have. Not to mention Zune Pass is a great way to enjoy unlimited music.

Zune HD

HD radio not only has better sound quality than satellite, but it’s free. Of course satellite has more channels than HD radio, but HD has a much larger channel selection than regular radio and many are commercial free. If you are going to purchase a movie from the Zune Marketplace it is a no brainer to get the HD version. There is no point in letting that movie you own go to waste on the small screen. If you have a Zune AV dock you can connect your Zune to your big screen TV and watch your HD movie on the big screen with all of your friends and family. This is also great for sharing videos.

Wi-Fi

Another nice thing about the Zune is the Wi-fi. You can buy and stream music from the Zune Marketplace in Wi-fi hotspots. You can also wirelessly sync with your PC and of course browse the web on wireless networks. The Zune also has apps. Whether you want to keep connected with your friends and associates using Twitter and Facebook or you want to pass some time playing solitaire there is a free Zune app to do that.

Zune Pass

A cool feature that is exclusive to Zune is the Zune Pass. This is a subscription service which allows you to download and stream unlimited music. The only catch is when your subscription expires so does your access to that music. So it isn’t possible to join and stockpile songs and then cancel. Although they do allow you to keep 10 songs a month permanently. You can also use your Zune Pass subscription on up to 3 devices at a time. So you can have streaming music on your Xbox 360, your PC, or your Windows Phone 7, along with your Zune mp3 player.

Smart DJ

Another fun thing is Smart DJ with this you just highlight a song or artist and click on Smart DJ and you will get similar songs and artists. This works especially well with Zune Pass, because it can give you access to more music options. The Zune HD comes in a 16 GB, a 32 GB, and a 64 GB option. This player is competitively priced and really shines when it comes to HD options.

Zune Dock

When it comes to accessories the Zune Dock is your best bet, this dock will allow you to watch Zune movies on your big screen TV and stream HD music into your home audio system. If you want a Zune that no one else has they are currently offering free etching when you order your Zune. I believe you need to order from the Zune website to get the personalization option. With this option you can choose the color of your Zune and have an image etched into the back.

Zune 4  Zune 8  Zune 15

The Zune HD is a great mp3 player, but when it comes to Zune there are other options too. If you want a compact Zune and aren’t concerned with the HD then you can opt for the the Zune 4, 8, or 16. These are smaller lighter players that still have an integrated FM radio, wireless syncing, video, and games. If you want large hard drive capacity and aren’t concerned with HD then the Zune 80 or 120 are good choices. They have either 80 GB or 120 GB capacity respectively. These come with a 3.2 inch color screen, a built in FM radio which lets you see the name of the song that is playing, and the capability to buy the song you hear on the radio instantly.

Zune 80 and Zune 120

Another premium feature of the Zune 80 and the Zune 120 are that they both come with premium headphones. When it comes to sound quality and comfort the headphones make a difference. The Zune mp3 players also have wireless syncing and the ability to for wireless Zune to Zune file sharing. It also has free games and you can browse wirelessly and buy music, movies, TV shows, and audio books. If you have a Windows PC and want a quality product the Zune line of mp3 players is worth a look.

The company Sylvania has a rich history just like Philips. They started out working in the emerging light bulb industry at the turn of the century. They eventually branched out into radio and TV and other consumer electronics while still innovating in the lighting industry. Besides television and audio and video equipment Sylvania makes mp3 players. Over the century the company has had some mergers and name changes, and they seem to be currently affiliated with Curtis International. Drag and Drop Interface

Sylvania is a common name brand and there is support for their player, but it is another low end player. That being said there are a couple of advantages to these players. One is the price, they are very reasonably priced. They also don’t require any proprietary software. You just install the drivers that come with the player and connect with the USB cable and then drag and drop your music files onto the player. Just like if you were using any other USB drive to organize and move files. This functionality is for a Windows based system, so Apple enthusiasts will have to stick to their iPods.

4GB Sylvania Mp3 Player

There are a few versions of Sylvania mp3 players available most come in 4 GB or 8 GB and there are a couple of smaller 2 GB versions. There is an 8 GB version that looks similar to an iPod, but costs much less. This full color touch screen allows for audio and video playback. As well as sharing images, and voice recording, and reading eBooks. You can also use it as an extra USB storage device. Which can come in handy, when your other USB drives are already full. All in all this video player is pretty good. One warning though in order to make the touchscreen work you have to make an initial adjustment.    Which consists of going to Settings < System < Touch Calibration, then using a pen or finger to calibrate the screen.

4 GB Video Mp3 Player

There is also a 4 GB Video Mp3 Player with FM Tuner and a built in Camera/Camcorder. Bargain alert this player can be found for under $30.00. This player actually sounds decent and is really easy to use. The only down side is the earbuds, but if you replace them with some better quality earbuds, you are in business. This little player will get the job done and even allow you to listen to the radio, which some higher priced players don’t have. All in all as far as a value player goes this is another one that is worth considering.

In case you don’t know what SanDisk does, they are the company behind flash memory. The same flash memory that is used in all of our portable devices from iPods, to smartphones, to digital cameras, and USB memory sticks. SanDisk not only markets and develops digital storage solutions they also license their products to other companies. If you use a device or have a card with flash memory, there is a good chance SanDisk had something to do with it.

Sansa Fuze+

SanDisk is also the maker of the Sansa Mp3 players. They might as well manufacture their own mp3 player brand considering it is their technology behind almost every other flash mp3 player in existence. The latest and greatest Sansa mp3 player is the Sansa Fuze+. This player comes in 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB capacities. It also comes in cool colors, such as black, white, purple, red, and blue. Certain capacities are only available in certain colors. Although all 3 come in black. This little player is a sleek design and has a 2.4 inch LCD screen. It supports the following audio formats: MP3, WMA, Secure WMA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Audible, Podcasts  and the following video formats: MPEG-4***, H.264, WMV and Flip Video.

FM Tuner

The Sansa Fuze+ also comes with a digital FM tuner with record functions, supports JPEG and BMP photo formats and can be expanded to support TIFF, GIF, and PNG formats. The player also has a sleek industrial design and an invisible capacitive touch control. Since this player is by SanDisk it is also expandable with a microSDTM card and microSDHCTM card slot. But one of the coolest features of this player is the new slotRadio compatibility.

SlotRadio or SR are new cards manufactured by SanDisk that have 1000 songs already on them. A slotRadio card costs about 39.95 and with it you get 1000 songs organized in playlists. These songs have to be played in order, but they can be skipped. They also can’t be copied onto your PC. SR cards work in slotRadio compatible mp3 players and phones. The advantage of this is not having to buy and download songs. You don’t even have to create playlists since they are already organized for you. Some of the 1000 song slotRadio cards include: Rock songs, Oldies, Health & Fitness, VH1 Classic songs, and there is a 500 song Motown card and a 500 song Latin music card. Once again an innovative company and the leader in memory cards has come up with something new.

Sansa Clip

If you want a smaller player there is always the Sansa Clip. It comes in 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB capacities. This player is even smaller and lighter than the Fuze+ and is great for workouts. It also has FM radio, voice recording, and a memory slot. It is also compatible with the slotRadio cards. This player won’t break the bank, but it will provide you with hours of music enjoyment. If you want a quality player and don’t want to shell out the big bucks and deal with Apples proprietary systems you can’t go wrong with a Sansa mp3 player.

Philips Electronics

Most of us have heard of the Philips electronics brand. Philips has a long history of innovative products and are pioneers in the research and development of many electronics and consumer products. Philips was established in 1891 in the Netherlands by Anton and Gerard Philips. The company began manufacturing carbon-filament lamps and by 1910 they employed  2000 employees. The Philips GoGear Vibe is a small affordable mp3 player that has some nice enhancements. Probably the nicest thing about the GoGear mp3 players is the sound quality. This is because Phillips has developed something called Fullsound. Which is a technology that adds back the richness of the sound that can be lost when music is converted to an mp3 file. Have you ever heard audiophiles complain that mp3s don’t sound as rich as the original CD? This is because slight variations in the sound quality change when the file is converted to the smaller mp3 format. With Fullsound sonic details are restored to compressed mp3 files. It uses the latest Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to create fuller bass and boosted voice and instrument clarity.

The Philips GoGear Vibe comes in a 4 GB and 8 GB model. It is a sturdy player with a brushed aluminum finish and a 1.5 inch full color display. It also comes with smart shuffle, full album artwork display, and an FM radio with 20 presets. One place where it outshines the more expensive iPod brand is with the comfortable rubber earbuds that come with it. Those white plastic iPod earbuds may look cool, but they don’t feel good. Another nice thing is Phillips Songbird which is Philips version of a simple program to download, discover, play, and sync music on the player. It also comes with integrated Audible.com so you brainiacs can learn something while you play.

Great Player Great Value

There is also a 4 GB Vibe Mp3 Video Player available. In my opinion the brushed aluminum 8 GB Vibe is a better value, if listening to audio files is your main goal. Philips has been in the consumer electronics market for years and they stand behind their products. These GoGear players are decent and affordable players and can make a nice iPod Nano alternative, for the value minded customer.

If you are in the market for a portable mp3 player you are in luck because most mp3 players are portable mp3 players. The only exception to this are a few stereos and speaker systems with mp3 player ports and portable CD players that play mp3s as well. I have already talked about my favorite mp3 players and the ones that are the best bargains, so in today’s post I will try to touch on some other mp3 player highlights. The first one is the cheap no name brand mp3 players that you can get for under $50. These are not iPods, but these are very inexpensive mp3 players that you can sync with Windows Media Player and get a lot of bang for very few bucks.

The Ematic 4 GB Video MP3 Player with 2.4-Inch Screen has a built in 5MP digital video camera, an FM radio, TV out port, and a speaker. That’s quite a bit of features for a product that cost around $40. With this player you can watch videos, movies, view song information and even browse Ebooks. You can also browse your photos which is convenient since it has a built in 5 mega-pixel camera and video recorder. This player is 4GBs, but it has a microSD slot so expansion is endless. The FM tuner also has recording capabilities and the player supports formats including MP3, WMA, AVI, MP4, FLV, JPG. Most reviewers gave this mp3 player a positive rating. It is not the end all be all and it may take some effort to understand how to use it, but for $40 what did you expect?

Touch Screen 4GB 2.8-Inch TFT MP5 Movie Music Personal Media Player

This player is less than $40 and the Touch Screen 4GB 2.8-Inch TFT MP5 Movie Music Personal Media Player, seems to be a bargain. This player is created by Pyrus Electronics which is a mysterious electronics company that I don’t know anything about. Besides the magical secrecy of this company this is an OK bargain player. It has a touch screen and looks similar to an iPod. It comes with 4GB flash memory and has an FM tuner. Fortunately, for us bargain hunters this player uses a simple drag and drop interface. It also has a built in picture viewer, voice recorder, and can read multiple file formats. It supports TXT and IRC files for Ebooks, and also MIDI, MP3, WMA, WMV, ASF, MTV, AVI, VOB, DAT, MPEG, 3GP and WAV formats.

Bear Motion 4gb Mp3 Multi Media Player with 2.8 Inch Touch Screen and 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera

The Bear Motion 4gb Mp3 Multi Media Player with 2.8 Inch Touch Screen and 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera, is another bargain player. It supports MPEG4, WMV, AVI, RM, RMVB and FLV without conversion. Other formats you can convert into one of these formats and it will play them too. It has 4GBs of memory and an expandable MicroSD slot. It also has a built in digital camera, a video recorder, speaker, eBook reader and an FM radio. It’s also a cool silver color. Most reviewers have been fairly happy with this player for basic functions. It is another bargain player that can serve a purpose without breaking the bank.

Visual Land V-Motion Pro 4 GB Video/Music/2.4-Inch MP3 player with Camera

The Visual Land V-Motion Pro 4 GB Video/Music/2.4-Inch MP3 player with Camera is a player that is an mp3 player under $30. This player has a camera that can even be used for videos or as a web cam. It has a MicroSD slot so the memory is expandable. It also has games, a picture viewer, an eBook reader and it can be used as a voice recorder. This player actually looks pretty good and can serve it’s purpose as a cheap portable mp3 and video player. If you just want something without amazing quality or a lot of features for a cheap price this mp3 play should get the job done.

At Top 10 Mp3 Players we are always on the lookout for a bargain. As we were doing our research for portable mp3 speakers we stumbled upon the PRO-POWER – Portable speakers. These speakers actually fold up for easy travel and can connect to any mp3 player with the 3.5mm cable. It also has a little dock that your mp3 player can sit in, even though the connection is through the cable. These little speakers work and the sound quality is about like a portable radio. The thing that makes these speakers worth mentioning is the price. I found one for $4 with free shipping and another for $1.74 with $1.99 shipping. There isn’t much more to say except for these are portable mp3 speakers that you can get for around $4.

FiiO S9 Portable Speaker System for MP3 Players

Another improvement in sound quality is with the FiiO S9 Portable Speaker System for MP3 Players which has exceptionally high quality sound output. Another decent little speaker system is the Jensen SMPS-225 Portable Stereo Speaker System. This player has good sound quality and looks nice too. It is battery powered or you can purchase an optional AC adapter.  You can connect any portable media player to these with the audio jack. These speakers are also affordable at around $25, but the best part is the sound quality.

Satechi SD Mini Portable Pocket Speaker Mp3 Player SD Card Reader

The Satechi SD Mini Portable Pocket Speaker Mp3 Player SD Card Reader is in a league of it’s own. It’s a little pocket sized speaker that you can connect to any mp3 or portable audio device. This speaker has a signature Bass Xpansion System and the speakers amplify the sound for excellent sound quality. You can also daisy chain these together for a true audio treat, but the interesting thing about this speaker is it also is a mobile music player that can play music from SD cards. This portable speaker serves a dual function as an mp3 speaker or mobile music player.

Grandmax Tweakers Mini-Boom Speakers

The Grandmax Tweakers Mini-Boom Speakers are little pocket sized speakers with a big sound. They feature a pop-up chamber for bass enrichment. They also come in cool colors like red, black, silver, metallic, and blue. They feature a built in rechargeable battery and retractable audio and charging cables. These speakers will work with any portable audio device using a 3.5mm jack. Most reviewers have been impressed with the looks and the sound quality of these little speakers.

If you are in the market for a pink mp3 player you are in luck. The Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Pink (4th Generation) is the latest generation of iPod shuffle. So you will have room to take movies and videos on those long trips. This is a great little mp3 player made by the company that brought us flash memory, SanDisk.
